Circularity
Circularity forms the DNA of Verhelst Group. We strive to keep materials in the chain as long as possible. By selectively demolishing, cleaning grounds, and recycling construction and demolition waste, we create high-quality secondary raw materials that can be reused in infrastructure, roadworks, and concrete applications. Through our recycling and washing installations, we reduce the need for primary raw materials and limit transport flows.
Conscious energy consumption
We are investing heavily in renewable energy through solar panels and our wind turbine, supplemented with battery storage to utilize self-generated electricity more efficiently. This way, we reduce our dependence on external energy sources and decrease our indirect emissions.
Specifically for our TopAsphalt department, we are also consciously working on energy consumption. The production of asphalt is energy-intensive. By covering our raw materials, moisture absorption decreases and the drying process is shortened, resulting in lower energy consumption in the production process. Also at Top-Mix Recycling, grounds are covered, on one hand to also limit moisture absorption, and on the other hand against dust and odor nuisance.
Innovations & CO₂ Performance Ladder
Innovations Our technical infrastructure is constantly evolving. Through targeted investments in new installations and digitalization, we increase our operational efficiency. Innovation also plays a role in our processing facilities. By continuously optimizing – for example in drying and cleaning soils – we reduce transport movements and increase efficiency per ton of processed material. CO₂ Performance Ladder The CO₂ Performance Ladder is an important steering tool for our environmental and sustainability policy. This certifiable management system focuses on greater CO2 awareness. It helps us to systematically map our emissions, take targeted reduction measures, and monitor our progress annually.
