Our resolutions for 2022? Simple: we're going to make it an amazing year! Our order book is richly filled and by focusing even more on sustainability, safety, and health, we want to contribute more than ever to building a beautiful future. This is how we will approach it.
We are economical with energy

At Verhelst Group, we are also investing this year in renewable energy and innovative techniques that reduce our CO2 emissions. A selection of our plans (and achievements):
- We are gradually transitioning to an electric vehicle fleet. To this end, we have already installed 10 charging stations, each with 2 charging points, at our site in Ostend. Thanks to Smappee's load-balancing technology, they operate on solar energy during the day. Smart car charging, it's called. The charging stations will also be available for use by third parties, and in the future, the number of charging points can be expanded to 40.
- At Verhelst Aannemingen, we have purchased electric scooters for our employees. We also encourage the use of electric bicycles.
- Of the 325,000 kWh of electricity we use annually, 125,000 kWh already comes from our solar panels. We are thus well and sustainably on track!

- In 2023, a medium-sized, powerful WES34/100 wind turbine should be at the entrance of Top-Mix in Ostend. The environmental permit for this has been submitted. The turbine has an extra-large diameter for optimal wind production. The electricity generated will be used entirely on site.
- The environmental permit for the new quay wall at the Top-Mix site in Ostend will be submitted soon. The work must be completed in 2023. This will allow us to transport more materials (150,000 tons!) via the water and use fewer trucks. Good for our ecological footprint and for mobility and traffic safety in the region!

For those working in the office, we are also undertaking a number of 'health initiatives.' For example, we invest in ergonomic office equipment such as fixed and height-adjustable monitor stands and footrests. Healthy employees are, after all, happy employees! That's why we've also appointed two confidential advisors. Anyone experiencing psychological and/or physical issues caused by working conditions, or who is a victim of bullying and/or unwanted, sexual behavior/aggression at work, can now reach out to them in complete discretion.
We are contributing to top-notch projects.
Last but not least: Verhelst Group has had a busy period and is still firmly on the roll. In 2022, there are some major projects planned. Listing them all is an impossible task. But we can already reveal that we will be working on pump station Geneverpiete in Oudenburg, the Ringlaan in De Haan, the Toekomststraat in Bredene, and the Verapazbrug in Ghent.
