On June 22, Verhelst Group acquired a new division: Top-Mix Recycling, formerly West Recycle. This company has been located in the Ostend back port since 2019, on an 8 ha site, and specializes in the physico-chemical cleaning (or, in short, washing) of contaminated sand flows.

It's not quiet on the other side, as a new wind is blowing through the former West Recycle site under the name Top-Mix Recycling. With this acquisition, Top-Mix is expanding its soil cleaning activities, which, given the current PFAS issue, is a major new asset for Verhelst Group. And the location, that's of course also top-notch!
What does the acquisition entail exactly? Top-Mix Recycling accepts and cleans sands originating from sorting lines in the construction and demolition world or the industry. The obtained sand and rubble can be reused in the construction sector, while the organic material can serve as fuel for energy production. The contaminated residual fraction has no further application and is transported by ship to a landfill.
Furthermore, the installation allows for the washing of contaminated soils, which fits perfectly with the remediation department of Verhelst Aannemingen and the soil cleaning center of Top-Mix. Also, the recycled materials are reusable again in Top-Mix earthworks and the concrete plant. The installation can handle about 160,000 tons per year.
