A realization of

In the heart of Bruges, on the former VTI school site, a new, sustainable urban district will soon rise. But before the first stone could be laid, there was an essential task for our colleagues from Verhelst Aannemingen.

Our demolition teams took charge of tearing down the old VTI, carefully supporting the classified facade and removing hazardous substances such as fluorescent lamps, asbestos, and oil tanks. After further dismantling and reinforcing the surrounding buildings, the structure was expertly razed to the ground. The rubble was crushed on-site and given a new purpose on the construction site.

After this demolition, our groundworkers took over. The various soil qualities are expertly separated and kept apart. The top layer of soil is a mixture of earth and stones, which is sifted to separate the materials and excavated. The released stone and concrete rubble is transported to a Top Mix crushing center. The soils are taken to various Verhelst Aannemingen projects to be reused as a useful application. With precision and craftsmanship, they then excavated this enormous construction pit, situated between the geothermal lines. After the excavation works, the crushed stone rubble from the demolition is used on-site as a foundation layer for the pile driver, thanks to our hard work, Furnibo is now ready to start building the underground garage.
