For the second year in a row, we successfully demolish an apartment building in Lille. Together with our French sister company Helfaut Travaux, we take on these complex projects. The building is close to the road, which makes the use of conventional demolition methods too risky due to potential falling debris. Since closing the road is not an option, we developed a smart and thoughtful approach.

Smart approach with a demolition robot
Our solution focuses on precision and safety:
- Demolition robot: For the part of the top five floors closest to the road, we use a demolition robot. This robot demolishes walls and floors per floor, with the debris ending up on the level below each time. This prevents debris from falling out uncontrollably.
- Scaffold and telescopic crane: On the roadside we've placed scaffolding to catch or block small debris. The demolition robot is relocated to each lower level with a telescopic crane to continue working.
- Waste management via elevator shaft: Debris is transported down through the elevator shaft. This limits dust formation and minimizes the risk of debris ending up in unwanted places.
The second phase: crane with long arm
When the part of the upper floors on the street side is safely demolished, we deploy a large crane with a long arm to demolish the rest of the building. This thoughtful method combines safety and efficiency, even in challenging urban situations.
