Over the past years, all products necessary for road construction have been subjected to BENOR certification. In 2014, the last component of road construction, concrete pavement, was also added to this quality system. This was achieved by introducing SB 250 version 3.1, which made the certification of all compositions for use as cement concrete pavement or linear elements mandatory.

A sectoral committee was established to finalize the entire certification system. Over a period of 3 years, various regulations and procedures were designed, leading to the issuance of the first documents in 2017. Initially, it was decided to present several compositions that meet the requirements of the SB250.

The certification body COPRO is responsible for the control and monitoring of all previously described characteristics. The preliminary study, in which a concrete mix is produced at the plant, plays an important role in this. All necessary characteristics are checked by an externally accredited lab. Subsequently, a trial period is initiated, requiring multiple production days and external analyses to verify that all requirements are continuously met. At Top-Mix Oostende, part of the Verhelst Group, the concrete for linear elements was chosen to be the first composition to be certified. At the beginning of 2019, the final test results were deemed compliant and the BENOR certificate was obtained.
